University Of BristolRandom stuff about the University of Bristol and maybe a resurrection of the Goldney JCR message board! Bristol is a great place to party (and study - don't try them at the same time) - especially if you get to stay at Goldney Hall, the best Halls Of Residence in Bristol (bar none). AccommodationI was fortunate to spend my first three years (1998-2001) in Goldney, just 12 minutes walk away from my Electrical & Electronic Engineering lectures, and five minutes from the Student Union - an ugly 6-storey concrete hulk containing the Anson Rooms (gig venue), a swimming pool, myriad meeting rooms and a handy shop. Goldney's student accommodation comprises apartment blocks divided into flats, and a couple of courtyards, one of which features a pond - a versatile receptacle for any size or shape of student. Occasionally you may also find more conventional lifeforms in the pond such as fish and ducks, although they don't coexist that well with wet drunken students. Goldney JCRDuring my time in Goldney I served on the JCR committee (members of hall elected to run social events and amenities and welcome next year's freshers) as the Marketing Representative. In this role, I advertised our various events (known as "ents") and revamped and maintained the JCR web site - it's great to see they've got lots of photos up so you can see what Red CrossMuch of my time at Bristol was devoted to the university's Red Cross group, providing first aid cover for various events in and around the university, from gigs at the union to sports matches at the university sports ground. On the committee I was Communications Officer, again revamping the web site.
